From Texta Marks to Tomato Sauce: Master Plastic-Free Stain Removal Today!
I love my daughter, but gosh she's messy! I am right now battling a pasta sauce stain on her white ballet outfit because I forgot to ask her to get changed before dinner!
Stains on your clothes are like uninvited guests at a party—they just show up! But in our journey toward a more sustainable lifestyle, how do we show these pesky spots the door without reaching for the plastic-packed cleaning chemicals?
With this in mind, I've curated a list of five common stains and how to treat them using natural, plastic-free solutions, including two fantastic products from our own range!
1. Pasta Sauce Stains
Tip: For the notorious red of a pasta sauce stain, turn to our Laundry Stain Soap. The natural oils in the soap are perfect for cutting through the oil and tomatoes.
How to Use:
  • Dab the stain with cold water immediately.
  • Rub the Laundry Stain Soap directly onto the dampened stain.
  • Let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
  • Launder as usual in cold water to rinse away the sauce without setting the stain.
2. Blood Stains
Tip: Cold water is your best friend for blood stains. Avoid hot water as it can set the protein in the blood, making the stain harder to remove.
How to Use:
  • Rinse the stain under cold running water to remove as much blood as possible.
  • Apply a paste made from cold water and our Soap Flakes, then gently scrub.
  • Let it sit for up to an hour.
  • Rinse and wash normally.
3. Reusable Nappy Stains
Tip: Dealing with reusable nappies means frequent encounters with tough stains. Pre-treating is crucial.
How to Use:
  • Soak the nappies in a solution of Soap Flakes and warm water before washing.
  • For stubborn stains, apply Laundry Stain Soap directly to the fabric and scrub lightly.
  • Launder on a warm cycle with an extra rinse to ensure all soap is removed.
4. Texta Marks
Tip: Alcohol-based markers need a bit of alcohol to lift them. You can use natural rubbing alcohol or try a more direct approach with lemon juice for less harsh stains.
How to Use:
  • If using lemon juice, apply it directly to the stain and place the garment in the sun.
  • For stronger marker stains, dab with a cloth soaked in rubbing alcohol, then rinse.
  • Wash as usual.
5. Sweat Stains
Tip: Sweat stains respond well to acidic treatments like vinegar or lemon juice, which break down the body oils and deodorant residue.
How to Use:
  • Create a mixture of equal parts water and white vinegar.
  • Apply directly to the stain and let it sit for 30 minutes.
  • Wash in cold water with a scoop of Soap Flakes for a refreshing finish.
