5 Easy ways to be better for the planet

5 Easy ways to be better for the planet
If you’re anything like me, mid-January can feel a bit like hitting the snooze button on New Year’s resolutions. Back at work, maybe even questioning if you really had a break, the buzz of “New Year, New Me” starts to fade. Let’s be honest—those grand, sweeping resolutions we make with all the best intentions often end up feeling overwhelming or unattainable by the time February rolls around.
That’s why I’ve started thinking smaller. Instead of aiming for perfect, I focus on better. Small, realistic changes that fit into my day without requiring a major overhaul. Here’s the thing—when we take this approach, we end up feeling successful instead of defeated. It’s a better mindset: humans might not get everything right, but we’re pretty great at improving.
So, with that spirit in mind, I want to share five small, achievable resolutions that can make a big impact—on the planet, no less. These aren’t about guilt or going zero-waste overnight; they’re simple switches any household can make. Let’s dive in!

5 Simple Changes to Reduce Your Footprint

1. Ditch Plastic Liquid Soap Bottles for Solid Soap Bars (or Refillables!)

Liquid soap bottles are often single-use plastics, which are a huge contributor to Australia’s waste problem—only 16% of plastic is recycled, with the rest heading to landfills or polluting our oceans.
Switching to solid soap bars can significantly reduce this waste. Our solid soaps are not only plastic-free but also biodegradable and made with pure Australian plant oils. They’re long-lasting and gentle, making them a win for your skin and the planet.
If liquid soap is more your thing, we’ve got you covered there too. Our liquid soaps come in glass bottles and are refillable, letting you enjoy the convenience of liquid soap without contributing to plastic waste.

2. Start Composting Your Kitchen Waste

Food scraps make up a significant portion of household waste, much of which ends up in landfills. Composting is an easy way to divert this waste and create nutrient-rich soil for your garden.
Not ready for a full composting system? A small countertop bin or local composting service is a great place to start. For a fresh-smelling bin, use our natural soap flakes—they’re biodegradable and chemical-free, keeping your compost clean and green.

3. Switch to Multipurpose Natural Cleaners

Many household cleaners come in single-use plastic bottles and contain harsh chemicals that can harm the environment. Simplify your cleaning routine with our multipurpose soap, which are:
Eco-friendly and biodegradable
Gentle yet effective for laundry, dishes, and surfaces.
Packaged without plastic.
Our dish soap is another excellent alternative—it’s tough on grease but kind to the planet, making it a must-have for a plastic-free kitchen.

4. Be Ruthless About Reducing Food Waste

Australians throw out roughly 312 kilograms of food per person annually, much of which could have been avoided. To cut down on food waste:
Plan your meals and shop with a list.
Use proper storage techniques to extend food shelf life.
Get creative with leftovers—think soups, stews, or casseroles.
Not only will this save you money, but it also helps reduce the methane emissions caused by food rotting in landfills.

5. Support Sustainable Brands and Avoid Greenwashing

Every purchase you make is a chance to vote for a better world. Look for brands that are truly committed to sustainability, but be mindful of greenwashing—where companies exaggerate or falsely claim eco-friendliness.
To spot the difference:
Look for clear certifications (e.g., cruelty-free, plastic-free).
Read ingredient lists and avoid vague claims like “natural” without details.
Research the company’s practices, packaging, and values.
Our brand is built on transparency. From our biodegradable ingredients to our 100% plastic-free packaging, we’re proud to offer products that are as kind to the planet as they are to you.

Small Steps, Big Impact

Sustainability doesn’t mean turning your life upside down. It’s about making small, intentional choices that add up to something meaningful. Whether it’s switching to solid soaps, reducing single-use plastics, or being mindful of what you buy, every step matters.
So, let’s start the year with progress, not perfection. Together, we can create a better future for ourselves and the planet—one simple switch at a time.
