·When I first started The Australian Natural Soap Company, we weren’t selling to big retailers. We were at markets — soaps stacked high, raw and naked, cut straight from the block.
It was simple. People could smell the essential oils, feel the texture, and choose exactly what they wanted. No fancy boxes. No glossy labels. Just pure, good-quality soap made from Australian plant oils.
Then wholesale came knocking. First it was health food shops, then Myer. And it was shiny. Exciting. A huge vote of confidence.
To get there, we created beautiful packaging, refined our product range, and met all the requirements of big retail. Our soaps sat proudly on shelves across the country.
But here’s the truth: packaging is just packaging.
It doesn’t make the product inside better. And, in the big beauty world, it’s often used to hide what’s inside — cheap fillers, harsh detergents, and ingredients you don’t actually need.
The more we did for wholesale, the more resources went into boxing, labelling, and presentation instead of just making exceptional soap.
